About Nick

Nicklaus Thomas-Symonds was born in South Wales.  He attended his local comprehensive school and was educated at Oxford University where he read politics, philosophy and economics.  He still holds a lectureship at his old Oxford College St Edmund Hall and specialises in teaching 20th Century British Government.

He is a practising Barrister at Civitas Civil and Public Law Barristers, Cardiff.  As to what inspired him into politics, Nick answered “I represent the views of others in my working life every day.  What I want to do is represent what I believe in, in the public arena”.

Nick also has a history of community involvement.  He is the Secretary of Blaenavon Labour Party and Secretary of the Torfaen Constituency Labour Party.  He is a Trustee of his local Citizens Advice Bureau and a School Governor.

Nick is married and he and his wife Rebecca are expecting their first child on the 15th July.

Nick has just completed a biography of Labour Prime Minister Clement Attlee which is to be released later this year.
